John Johnston a/k/a Jeremiah Johnson

John Johnston, the real "Jeremiah Johnson."  His native american wife was killed by the Crow people.  He embarked on a 12 year vendetta against the tribe. He would cut out the liver of each man he killed. This was an insult because the Crow believed that by eating the liver of animals that they killed, they received its vitality.  He was a sailor, union soldier in the 1864 Colorado Calvary, a hunter, a guide, and a whiskey peddler.  Pretty much an all-around badass.
