An American Tragedy
This is a series of photos of a depression era family of nine, taken in 1936. The family lived in an open field on U.S. Route 70 between Camden and Bruceton, Tennessee.
Their clothes are made of flour sacks. They lived in a one-room hut built over the chassis of abandoned Ford truck. Their housing was provided by a landlord for an illiterate wood-cutter, with a wife and seven children.
