Once upon a time, school didn't start until the work was done. Here are some photos of children gathering potatoes on a farm near Caribou, Maine. The photos were taken in 1940.
The photographer made a point to explain that school would not start until the potatoes were harvested.
These two photographs show the boys gathering the potatoes from the field.
This photograph shows all the farmers lined up to get cash for their crop.
